Here are a few things we have done so far to improve on an old masterpiece, in order:
- We had the entire interior painted, because the uniform brown of the walls (likely a Home Depot contractor’s special) was depressing.
- We had a concrete craftsman tear out the hideous faux marble fireplace surround, which had obviously been added imprudently in the 80s, and build a simple, modern concrete fireplace.
- We had the hallway bathroom remodeled (no more carpet in the vanity, no more pink tub).
- We had the non-functioning master bathroom remodeled, and in the process removed a non-functioning bedroom wall to open up the room
- We replaced the old white carpet in the hallway with beautiful gray tile, which mimics the look of concrete but isn’t prone to cracking and was less expensive than having concrete poured
To do:
- Kitchen cabinet refacing to replace doors that keep falling off
- Kitchen countertops to replace ugly brown granite
- Hardwood floor refinishing (question: can we go from a dark red-brown to a pale wood with refinishing?)
- Window replacements for insulation
